CLAY STUDIO

The studio area at Anam Cré is fully equipped for a full range of clay-based activities. There are potters’ wheels, a variety of kilns and a wide range of clay and glazes.

The studio at Anam Cré is run by the owner Anne O'Shea. Anne is a native of Kenmare and has been running Kenmare Pottery for the last 10 years. Her vision is influenced by the elemental quality of the environment in which she lives, glacial mountains and oceanic life.

Her work embraces wheel-thrown form and sculptural creations delighting in the creation of the organic. She is a member of the Irish Crafts Council and exhibits with the Irish Craft Potters and in her own gallery above the studio.

Clay Sessions are run daily during the tourist season or by arrangement. MAKE YOUR OWN CERAMICS (NON RESIDENTAL) Duration 2.5hours 10.30a.m.-1p.m. mornmng session 2.30p.m.-5p.m. afternoon session ALL CLAY SESSIONS ARE SUITED TO INDIVIDUALS,FAMILIES AND SMALL GROUPS.No previous experience necessary.Booking essential. During these sessions people are put at their ease and are given an incredible choice of things they might like to makee.eg.pots, bowls.vessels,creative forms.Some might decide to try the potter`s wheel,this is also possible.Given the facilities,the individual attention,and the guidance ,it is amazing what can be achieved.Usually one session for the inexperienced is enough to generate interest and to create a piece of work which they would like to keep. Tariff 40euros per person.Children (under12years, 25 euros This includes approx 1 kilo of clay fired to biscuit temperature (1000centigrade) Glazing is optional and extra,and can be arranged. For those who are on one week holiday in the area it is advisable to take a pottery session at the beginning of the holidayrather than the end,this allows time for work to dry and be fired and be collected before departure.For those who don`t or can`t we can arrange postage. Another type of clay session run on a 2.5hour basis is called"PAINT YOUR OWN CERAMICS"
