Residential Sessions
Combine a holiday in Ireland with making your own ceramics. Become involved on an elemental level. Stay in Anam Cré for a week with a group of 8-10 people and enjoy the conviviality and the great atmosphere and follow the progress of making to fired finished product. There is great satisfaction taking one`s fired ceramics home at the end of the course; whether the work created is made on the wheel or hand-built, the culmination of RAKU is in the firing. Glaze with local clays and ashes. Learn to stack the kiln and feed the fire. There is a drama, surprise and serendipity in wood fired ceramics that is not available through electric firing.
While the claywork you have made is in the drying stage feel free to explore Kenmare with it`s interesting shops, restraunts pubs and galleries, or meander through the inspiring locality. It is perfect for sightseeing, hillwalking, fishing, golfing etc.
Work will be fired in an 18cb.foot single chamber cross-draught kiln, designed and built by Billy Eccles on his return to Ireland following his residency in Shiguraki, Japan.
